Please ask first. Artists have the right to deny others permission to photograph their work and please understand that this is the norm rather than the exception. The best way to photograph the work is to ask the Artist to be in it with you and always tag the artist and ask for permission if you are going to put images on social media.

The rich and diverse culture of Bali plays out at all levels of life in Ubud, from the exquisite flower-petal offerings placed everywhere, to the myriad temple ceremonies, to the otherworldly traditional music and dance performed each night.
Ubud is located in the heart of Bali and is famous for its connections to art and culture.

Flights can be booked into and out of Bali Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), also known as Bali International Airport or Denpasar International Airport.
Despite the misleading names, the airport is located in Tuban between Kuta and Jimbaran, about one hour away from Ubud. Ngurah Rai is Indonesia's 3rd busiest international airport (after Jakarta and Surabaya) and a major hub well-connected to Australia, South-East Asia, and the rest of Indonesia. -

Why should you attend Ubud Open Studios?
Ubud Open Studios is an amazing opportunity to peek into all the different worlds of creativity and craftsmanship, many rooted in traditional handmade techniques. Bali has a special way of never saying no to crazy, beautiful ideas. Whole houses made of bamboo? Absolutely. Giant dragons crafted from fresh coconut leaves? Sure. Mythical beings springing to life from illustrations? Without question.
This experience will likely spark a waterfall of ideas, deepening your appreciation for Ubud’s hidden creative ecosystem and the remarkable ingenuity of its artists.
You’ll have the chance to connect with Ubud’s local creative talents and pick their brains about their artistic methods and inspirations. Get your burning questions ready!
Tools, techniques, materials, and mind-blowing skills. Eye candy & inspiration as far as the eye can see.
Maybe the artist will be working on a new project, maybe they will show you through their archive, maybe they will tell you a few of their secrets, maybe you will fall in love with a piece and take it home, maybe the artist will tell you their favorite gallery or restaurant in town to try, or a friend of theirs will be hanging out for the day. You’ll never know what you will find.

Weather Considerations
Ubud in May typically experiences warm temperatures averaging 27-30°C (80-86°F) with moderate humidity. While this is technically the beginning of the dry season, brief afternoon showers are still possible.
Morning and evening: Pleasant temperatures, ideal for studio visits
Midday (11am–2pm): Hottest period, consider visiting indoor studios during these hours
Afternoon: Occasional brief showers possible, especially in outlying areas
Check the forecast before heading out each day, as microclimates can vary significantly between central Ubud and studios in surrounding villages like Penestanan, Sayan, or Tegallalang.
