Two FAQs we love to answer about Ubud Open Studios

We get it. The concept of Ubud Open Studios is different! It’s not a one-location event where you can turn on autopilot. This is an adventure, an art-venture if you will. A design-your-own adventure where no two Ubud Open Studio experiences look alike. It’s truly customizable to your passions and curiosity. Which brings us to one of the most common things we hear:

  1. There’s too much choice! I'm overwhelmed by the number of studios! What should I do?

This is a GOOD problem to have, trust us! We’ve also done a lot of thinking and curating to help make this easier for attendees. First of all, the key to a great Ubud Open Studios is information, information, information! Leave the heavy lifting to us and just follow one of our curated pathway itineraries based on your interest (ceramics, contemporary art, architecture), or browse the showcase exhibition space and pick based on the art that call to you, or find a real life person at our info hub and demand they pick 5-7 studios for you! We’re happy to curate your ideal journey!

But “I want to see everything!”, you say! Our best advice? Don't. The magic of Open Studios happens in the unplanned moments, in the unexpected demo you stumble upon, or a conversation that changes how you see a piece. Pick 5-7 studios that truly call to you each day, and let the rest be a surprise. Which leads us to…

  2. I need transport/can I walk/do you have a shuttle/ it’s so far between studios!

Ubud's artists find inspiration in the hills and valleys, which means their studios are sprinkled across this beautiful landscape. Getting there is part of the discovery, whether you’re on a bike, using Grab/Gojek, or in car.

Our (tested!) Google pins help take the drama out of the trip. Each studio has multiple Ubud Open Studio flags to guide you in for more hidden locations, and each studio has a Studio Steward ready to catch you! If you need extra help, the Stewards or the Hub team will be more than happy to chat to drivers, suggest nearby studios you can visit in the area, or just order your next trip for you on your app.
