50+ Participating Studios

Architects, ceramicists, costume designers, illustrators, jewelry designers, leather makers, painters, photographers, printmakers, stone carvers, textile designers…

Ubud Open Studios is your chance to meet the minds behind the top creative studios and get an insider’s view of Ubud’s unique wealth of creativity and hidden worlds.

A century of exploration and cross-art form collaboration has led to a community of Ubud-based artists & makers bursting with diversity. From the preservation of time-old practices to experimentation in mediums & modalities.

“Open Studios is an up close and personal opportunity for an artist to gauge firsthand the public reaction to their work… For some artists who only exhibit in galleries, it’s a chance to let the public into both their process and their world as a “fly on the wall” experience. It’s a much more intimate look at art.”

Studio Showcase at Titik Dua

Behind every artwork is a story, a creative process—an artist’s journey.

Years of learning, endless repetition, putting in the hours to master a craft. Blood, sweat & tears, successes & failures, detours, doubts & finding their voice.

Every line drawn on paper, every stroke put on canvas, every stitch sewn in cloth, every element sculpted contains the artist’s fingerprint—not simply of that moment but a culmination of their journey.

Studios are a safe space for artists, where they can experiment & are free to express themselves. In Ubud Open Studios’ third year, we open the doors not only to their studios but also to the inner workings of their creative process. It is a chance to meet the artists, hear their stories, & watch them at work.

This year the Studio Showcase explores this theme, we look beyond the finished artwork, tracing the steps of creation, from inception to realization. This walk-through catalog is your introduction to some of Ubud’s most renowned and emerging creatives. Engage with their works, then go visit them in their studios.

runs until 31 March

Why Ubud?

Ubud is a magnet and source of creativity. The Ubud culture is known worldwide for its rich artistry, striking performances, and craftsmanship.

Ubud’s artists have a long tradition of creating, mastering mediums and techniques and passing them down through the generations. Ubud was once known for its art and craft studios and this was the main draw for many visitors. We’d love to support this renewal in the area with Ubud Open Studios.

You’ll notice subtle handmade beauty almost everywhere in Ubud — from the way an offering sits in a doorway to the gentle hum of giant kites in the windy season — which is why people from all corners of the globe flock here for inspiration.

Artists and designers from outside Ubud also contribute to the village’s vibrant art culture. Many set up studios of their own and collaborate with local artists.
